Recap on Consistency

Updated: Aug 20, 2024

There are so many important key factors you need to take into account when we talk about the idea of consistency or staying consistent, and the first one is seeing instant results. In order to see results as fast as possible, you need to stay consistent. A lot of people fail though when working on themselves since they don’t see the immediate results when trying to reach a certain goal.

This is why it is so hard to start because when you start, you are at your lowest, and you don’t want to be at your lowest anymore; you want to make sure what you're doing is working.

Well, let me tell you if you’ve done everything you can to educate yourself and you are staying consistent, it is working. Now say you’ve been working at your self-improvement and goals for a month. Well,  you aren’t going to see much change; it’s going to be very minimal.

This is part of the motivation; if you are motivated, you will continue to keep trying and working on yourself. You also become stronger during the process, so the pace at which change will occur will just come faster.

Usually you start to see change if you have been consistent for 2-3 months. If the change isn’t that big though in your eyes, keep staying consistent; small change is just a sign that big change and improvement will happen soon. There is also no point in seeing change and then stopping because it is too small; take it as a sign that you are on the right path and you should continue to follow it. Say you don’t see any change; go back to learning and hearing ways to improve from other sources. What I have learned is that you know yourself the best; use others as a way to learn about their experience, then apply it to you. If it matches, then great, follow that, but if their experience doesn’t match you or struggles you’ve encountered don't follow their advice.

This experience also taught me that sometimes it's best not to fully get your advice from people who have failed you in the past. Even if they are fully experienced, find someone who went through the same struggles and learn from them; not always from someone who treats many different types, like acne, because there are so many different causes and it can be really frustrating sometimes. I'm not saying don't listen to the professionals, but if you find that you keep running into the same problem or cycle, just branch out, then stay consistent from there.

The next idea about consistency that is so important is that not only does your routine have to stay consistent but the small things outside or apart from reaching your big goals. For example, let's take gaining muscle and losing body fat. If that is something you want to accomplish, you can’t just be consistent in the gym; you need to be consistent with your lifestyle outside of the gym. Stay consistent with your foods, make sure you are having full meals with protein and nutrients to fill you up, and make sure that your diet matches the results you want to see when working out. If you are bulking, that is different than wanting to become lean. Match what happens in and outside of the gym to see fast results, as it is another way to speed up the process of reaching your goals.

Lastly, staying consistent can come in many different forms. For some, it is a lot easier than others. You may find it hard to keep track or you lack the motivation/belief that all is going to work out in the end. To hold yourself accountable, find a place where you can record your work. Not only will this keep you consistent, but it will also help with your motivation that you need to continue to stay on track if you document your work. Everyone, though, has their own unique style, so find what works best for you.

Consistent is key for any goals you are trying to accomplish. Just stay on track and believe in yourself, and you will see the results.
